World Oceans Day in Almuñécar.

A growing commitment: We’re returning to Peñón de San Cristóbal for World Oceans Day.

The ocean is not just a place for recreation or work; it is the blue heart of our planet. That is why, at Buceo Almuñécar, we believe that a passion for the sea goes hand in hand with a responsibility to protect it.

Our annual tradition. Last year, thanks to your incredible efforts, we managed to remove a significant amount of rubbish from the Peñón de San Cristóbal in Almuñécar. It was a wonderful day to see divers, families and local residents coming together for a common cause.

Thanks to more than 30 volunteers and partner organisations such as the Environment Department of Almuñécar Town Council and Lorbone, on 7 June 2025 we were able to remove 360 kilos of rubbish from our seabed and San Cristóbal Beach. Among the items collected were three car tyres, 150 drink cans and over 500 cigarette butts! An initiative organised by Oceánidas and its Network of Marine Watchers.

Saturday 6 June 2026

This year, to mark World Oceans Day, we want to build on that positive impact.

Why 6 June? Although the official date is the 8th, we’ve chosen Saturday 6 June so that our whole community can join in. El Peñón is a symbol of our coastline and a key hotspot for biodiversity that deserves to be free of plastic.

What shall we do? We will organise cleaning teams on two fronts:

    • Ground Crew: To clear the area of sand and rocks from the Rock.
    • Water Team: Volunteer divers who will be responsible for removing what cannot be seen with the naked eye.

Drop us a line or give us a call if you’d like to join us in making the sea cleaner! 623 048 151

Once we’ve finished, we’ll get together to celebrate the fact that our waters are a little healthier thanks to you.
